Flu Season
2005-01-22
Most of the students and teachers at our schools are sick right now. We're walking around in a big, thick soup of runny noses and watery eyes. Unfortunately, we didn't escape the germs. Bleah.
Hacking coughs, sore throats.
Tossing and turning at night
While our lungs rattle.
It turns out the nagging cough I've had for the past few weeks is symptomatic of something more serious than just the flu. After a night of vomitting, excessive chills and bouts of fever, Marlene and I headed to the hospital to see what was wrong with me. A blood test, x-ray, and several pokes and prods later the doctor diagnosed
pneumonia . Great. So, now I'm house bound and coughing up vile bile.
Marlene is amazing. She's nursed me through some rough nights of uncontrollable chills and burning fevers. She has a hacking cough herself and if it doesn't clear up in the next day or two we're back to the hospital to see if she has pneumonia too. We're both
hoping it all clears up before we head to Malaysia in less than two weeks. The last thing we want to be doing is shivering inside a grass hut on the beach when it's 35 degrees outside.

The cures that have been *helping* me have all been Chinese, so you should be in good hands. Ganmaoling/tuire, acupuncture -- and Marlin's guitar playing, of course ;)
Take good care you two!
Love,
